Since then, many cities around the world have begun adopting approaches inspired by this new vision of urban living. They are gradually developing their own models and interpretations based on local characteristics and needs. These initiatives have included projects such as the redistribution of street space, the redevelopment of squares and peripheral neighbourhoods, and the creation of co-working spaces. In more recent years, there has also been discussion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/en\/blogs\/2025\/04\/from-the-15-minute-city-to-the-30-minute-region-rethinking-how-we-live-and-connect.html\">\u2018<strong>30-minute region<\/strong>\u2019 <\/a>model, with networks of interconnected municipalities and access to essential services even in areas outside neighbourhoods of large urban cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Italy\u2019s 15-Minute Cities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the end of 2024, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ansa.it\/canale_scienza\/notizie\/terra_poli\/2024\/09\/19\/da-milano-a-firenze-in-italia-sono-6-le-citta-da-15-minuti_369cb839-1106-4138-931b-25ba47423be8.html\">six Italian cities<\/a><\/strong> were among the \u201c15-minute cities\u201d: <strong>Milan<\/strong> (the first major city to adopt this model), <strong>Turin, Livorno, <a href=\"https:\/\/smart.comune.genova.it\/comunicati-stampa-articoli\/urbanistica-e-patrimonio-ok-alle-linee-guida-attuare-la-citt%C3%A0-dei-15\">Genoa<\/a>, Bologna<\/strong> and <strong>Florence<\/strong>. In these cities, around <strong>90% of the population <\/strong>is able to meet their daily needs by reaching nearby services and facilities within 15 minutes. Naples and Rome, while still showing relatively strong percentages, did not rank among the most successful cities in this regard.
